I just reread The Story of the Treasure-Seekers by E. Nesbit on a long train journey. I pretended it was research as I'm working on a children's fantasy novel but really it was just good fun!

i just found a bunch of my favorites at my parents house.
harriet the spy
the phantom tollbooth (the best ever)
the bridge to terebithia
tuck everlasting (another really good one)
the Olivia books (funny and they include a lot of art)
i also really like Teri Smith's (i think that is her name) books. This is Not A Book is good and she also has a nature one. More exploration, activity books than novels but fun and makes kids think.
the talking cat in Half Magic made me laugh endlessly as well.
